Themes..

My fiance and I are planning on getting married on July 3rd and we want to have a 4th of July themed wedding. Obviously with the colors red, white and blue and a little bit of silver. Anybody have any good ideas on how NOT to over-do the theme?? and some ideas for food, beverages.. all that good stuff would be great :] thanks

Nice of you to make a party on a holiday

I hope I can help. The best way to not go over-board or tacky is to just work with the color pallete that you have. Ceremony - If I were to imagine a really well-done american themed wedding it would involve getting married under a white gazebo with american flag bunting wrapped around it. Like so... http://www.flickr.com/photos/magichatstudios/2208748863/ Tables - Tie white chairs with a blue ribbon. Centerpieces can be roses if you have the budget, if not go with red and white carnations. Party favors can be small fireworks (the ones that you pull on and they shoot confetti) but personalized with the bride and grooms name of course. Bridal Party - Brides maids can wear red with a white sash around the waist. (to look like a stripe) Men can wear a black tux with blue undershirt. They can also have white stargazer lillies as a boutonniere (since it resembles a star). Food - Everyone loves a good BBQ, but maybe with a little more elegance for your wedding. Avoid anything that has to be eaten with the hands. Im not sure what that is haha but work with your cater and they can arrange a way for you to get all those good eats onto the plates of your guests without them having to get their sleeves greasy. Reception - it would be awesome to have a live band play some dixieland, ragtime and american themed music. They can also become your gamemaster to get your party started. However, they can also be a little expensive. If you can't hire them, play some famous american tunes over an ipod. And the grand finale - it would be really nice to have fireworks as you leave to your honeymoon (but first ask if your wedding location allows them.) I hope that helps :)
