Re: Firefighter wedding HELP!
"Start with the black, red, yellow and brass of firefighter regalia and firetrucks. See if you can marry in the fire hall, ideally with a firetruck as your transportation to the ceremony, or as your getaway car.
Check your local prop shop, who might be able to rent you special items to add zing to your decor. What could be more romantic than strolling down an aisle lined with flower and tulle-draped hydrants?
For high drama, walk underneath an arch of pike poles held by the groomsmen (donning full dress blues) after the officiant declares you husband and wife."

Re: Firefighter wedding HELP!
Hi.
My brother and his wife (both firefighters) left the wedding, and arrived at the reception in one of the Fire Trucks from the dept. (if you do that....have a sheet to site on....to protect your dress, and someone to drive it slowly for you....as, you wont have a seat belt on, and wedding dresses are VERY slippery on the truck seats....she was sliding a bit).
www.ourdesigns.com has ALOT of fire/ems stuff that you can use for everything from favors/ centerpieces/ to if you wanted....and you used your imagination....a cake topper....if you don't mind that it isn't OFFICIALLY a cake topper.
Do not hesitate to "think out side the box" when it oomes to planning your wedding.
Since you do not have a site yet....is there ANYPLACE that sums up FIRE and EMS to you both?? (I saw your other post)
Not sure WHEN your date is....how much time you HAVE....but, there are alot of sites listed on this site that are really helpful. www.hcgarters.com can make garters...and, they have fire and ems charms....your first charm is free.
Hope some of this is helpful. Good luck.

Re: Firefighter wedding HELP!
I appreciate the time you all took to reply and help out, the date is 09/22/2007. As much as I don't want to, I'm leaning towards a reception at the firehouse. we have a huge bay, and it's very easily cleaned up and decorated (we've done it for other things) But is that classy enough?

Re: Firefighter wedding HELP!
Hi. I do not know WHERE you are located....what state/area, but, do not feel like you HAVE to have it at a firehouse. There are so many places you CAN have it....and, still maintain a fire/ems theme.
One of the things you can do, is, look into having it at a "fire training center" banquet facility....if you have one in your area. We have several....places where the BIG fire departments...usually the paid companies send their career fire fighters for training, and they have some kind of banquet hall....it tends to possibly be a bit nicer than a "truck bay".
Or, you can have it at a REGULAR banquet facility...or, outside at a state park (MUCH less expensive)...and, have it VERY nice....and, still have your fire theme, but, not have it at a fire house.
Your date is one week after my date.....I am in ems, as is my fiance, (paramedics) and my brother is a career firefighter....we both have alot of firefighters in our families. My fiance had been with the local fire dept for a long time, but, currently, he doesn't have time to hang out/train/respond with them.
If you look on here, there are a few others that are looking to incorporate firefighting into there wedding....they may have some ideas you can use/adapt.
Good luck, hope I helped.

Re: Firefighter wedding HELP!
I am also doing a firefighter wedding (it seems to be a up and coming theme). Here are just a few ideas that I am using...
Instead of buying the already made firefighter theme accessories, I am getting charms from acharmingplace.com and decorating them myself.
We are using an axe to cut the cake. I found one for around $50 that has a brass head, and the handle is only 15", so it will look nice, and be easy to use.
I am also using the charms to decorate the little bottles of bubbles that we will pass out at the ceremony.
My ringbearer will be dressed in fire gear, and ride a little firetruck down the aisle.
For favors, I have fire theme candy molds (helmets, firetrucks, etc.) So I will make a small assortment of candy for each guest, and then I was going to get small plain boxes and decorate them myself with fire department theme.
I am having a church wedding, but our reception will be at the firehouse just down the street. My FH has his own antique firetruck, so he and his groomsmen will arrive at the ceremony in it, and then we will ride it to the reception. (if you are memebers of a fire company, I'm sure they would let you use a fire engine or ambulance)
Just a few ideas to get you started...hope it helps. Let me know if you come up with anything new, and I will keep you up to date with any ideas I find.

Re: Firefighter wedding HELP!
Another thing, for our cake, I am using a traditional wedding cake, and I found a women that is going to make me a firetruck cake and I am going to put a ladder from it up to the wedding cake.
Also, my FH and his groomsmen will all be wearing their fire company uniforms.

THat is really pretty! I read in another post your colors were red and gold right? If so, those colors will look amazing with your dress. How elegant.

Yes, red and gold. I kind of came upon this dress by accident, and I almost didn't order it because it is so soon before my wedding. I am so glad I did because the company no longer makes this style.

Re: Firefighter wedding HELP!
How about incorporating/using the colors we associate with fire? Reds, oranges, and yellows---can be combined beautifully and classy. You can get a custom cake topper at www.coloradocarla.com and if you don't like the lace and pearls just send them an email and they will send you a topper with just the bride and groom. What about using quotes or phrases on your STD's or programs. Corny, but all I can think of right now is "This is one fire they won't put out." Also, you could use firemen hats to make centerpieces. Pretty it up with flowers and candles. Maybe if you focus on incorporating his firefighter theme into the reception, stationary, flowers, and attire, you can have the ceremony you have dreamt about and he can feel like he was considered. If you use smaller details (having it at the firehouse might be too overkill) you can have your elegant wedding, but with a little kick and fun. Your guests will relax more if they see you had fun with it.

Re: Firefighter wedding HELP!
Our toasting glasses are coming from Our Designs...we are getting the pilsnars with the fire & EMS emblems on them. My garter is going to have the charm from a necklace he bought be incorporated into it.
For our card box my sister suggested a pinata. FH suggested that we take the engines from our original departments and line them up nose to nose and have our bridal parties stand in front of them for a picture.
Just a few more ideas for you.

Re: Firefighter wedding HELP!
In just over a week, I will have a fire/EMS themed wedding. We are having a small honor guard present and the wedding, and my FH is wearing our Class A Uniforms. Also, we are taking one of our engines from the Church to the Fire Hall ( where the reception is). Since we really didn't have a lot of money to spend on the wedding, we are having the caterer's drop off the food, and the Ladies Aux will be serving it. We have also decided that we are both going to walk in with a Haligan and a Flat headed axe and have those as our centerpiece. When it comes to the Bouquet and Garter Toss, I am having a friend of mine go and get my boots, and when my FH lifts my dress all everyone will see is my boots. The garter and the bouquet both have little fire trucks on them. A fire themed wedding isn't really that difficult to pull off with little money. The cake toppers are not cheap, but you can find other things that will work just as well. I wish you the best of luck with planning your wedding. Just remember, No matter what you are marrying your best friend. Have fun, and don't let it stress you!

Re: Firefighter wedding HELP!
I actually ended up finding one on ebay. It has a red handle with "Our Wedding" on it. The head of the axe is silver and gold. I am going to have it engraved with our names and the wedding date.

I think the cutest party favors would be little emergency kits! Like little favor bags/boxes, but with like a band-aid in each one with individual (travel) size neosporins or something like that...everyone would love it and actually use it
