Guest book(s)

Am I supposed to display my guest book at the church and at the reception, or just at the reception. I would think just the reception because everyone who goes to the church will definitely make it to the reception also. So it seems pointless to have the same people sign at both. I also have a problem with it because, as I said in a previous post, I have two different color schemes going and can't use the same book for both. Although, I don't want people showing up at the church looking for a guest book if there's supposed to be one there. Does anyone have any knowledge on this at all?

I prefer to do it at both because people aren't going to wait in line at the church to sign it, especially if it means they don't get seated where they think they should, or they arrive without time to sign it. If you display it at the reception as well, they have all the time of the evening to get over there to sign it. There are also some people who may remember to do it when they get to the church, but it may slip their mind at the reception. Its totally up to you though. You don't have to do it at both

Re: Guest book(s)

As reecey said you can place this at either place. I am going to place mine at both the wedding and reception so those who did not sign it at the wedding can sign at the reception. My sister is going to be my guest book attendant and will be responsible for making sure it gets from the wedding to the reception. I will have a place set up at the reception for the guest book. I am also thinking of having some quilt squares, only at the reception, in which the guests can sign and then the squares will later be made into a quilt. Once I get all of the quilt squares I will embroider the names so the marker does not wash out over time as the quilt gets washed. I think this is a nice idea since you will always be able to remember who was at your wedding and reception by looking at the quilt. I mean a couple does not look at their guest book all the time. This quilt will always be a reminder as who was at the wedding and reception. This is one of those quilts which will not get a lot of use and will be displayed on a nice quilt rack next to the other wedding and reception momentos ... toasting glasses, cake top, cake server set, guest book, etc.

As for the color scheme the book will be open so all people will see are the pages to write in unless they get curious and close it to see what the outside looks like. So just look for one you really like and go with it. You probably will not have to worry about people sgining it twice, they will know that you just have it both places to give everyone the time and opportunity to sign it. nel: I love the quilt idea, are you going to include pictures of the wedding in the quilt too? I had seen something like that done where they had the signitures on some blocks and then on others they had taken pictures and had them put onto material and included them in the quilt. A quilt is really a neat way to remember the day though.

Re: Guest book(s)

I will probably only have mine at the recpetion also. But my ceremony and reception are at the same place just in different buildings. And the chapel doesn't really have a spot I can put it.

Re: Guest book(s)

We'll have our guest book at both locations. We have the ceremony at a church and the reception at a hall a few miles away. I know from attending other weddings that if the locations are different, many people only show up to the reception (and some only go to the ceremony). This way everyone will be able to sign the book. :)
I love the quilt idea. I've been thinking more and more about forgetting the guestbook altogether and just going with the quilt idea.
In regards to the wedding quilt I am thinking of doing the wedding ring design -- I believe this is what they call it anyways. This type of quilt will provide enough room for everyone to sign. I could probably make the quilt myself or have one of my family members make the quilt for me. I was debating of having the quilt top made and hanging on a wall for everyone to sign so they can see what the finished top will sort of look like. I do not want to put the back of the quilt on until we have time to embroider the different names.

...more questions...

So I will probably display it at both places. Do I have to have a guest book attendant though? I hate to assign that job to anyone. It seems so boring standing out there telling everyone to sign in. I think it's like the last resort job anyone would want at a wedding. Also, the guest book I chose has sleeves for pictures also. Should I put some of our engagement photos in there or is that for after the wedding to hold ceremony and reception pics?

Re: Guest book(s)

I agree with reecey. You don't need somebody to stand near the guest book. When I was a MOH, I walked around during the reception and just asked everybody if they had remembered to sign. There is an older lady I work with who calls me her adopted grand-daughter. She asked me if she could make sure everyone signed the book. So that is all set. My venue also includes ladies that basically make sure everything is rolling on time and that I have everything that I need. They give tours of the property, etc. So, maybe your venue has someone on staff that could help in this area.
