Doe Run Hotel -
Mammoth Cave Destination Wedding Sites Mammoth Cave
In 1778, Squire Boone (Daniel||s brother) and John McKinney discovered the stream which now bears the name Doe Run. It was a natural name to give it because deer were seen in great numbers at the creek. Herds of bison and elk were also attracted to the stream and its sulphur and salt licks.
Boone claimed title to a tract of land, including the head of Doe Run Creek, in 1786. The deed was signed by Patrick Henry, then Governor of Virginia. The community was originally called "Little York, Virginia." The first building, now named Doe Run Inn, was constructed in 1821 with hand-hewn timbers and native limestone. The walls were made 2 1/2 feet thick and Abraham Lincoln||s father worked as a stone mason on the structure.
The building was first used as a woolen mill, then as a grist mill. Next, it became a flour and grain mill and was operated by the family of the present owners (many antique items used on the property have been preserved and are on display there). It was converted to a Country Inn in 1927 and word soon spread about its fine food and charming accomodations.
Today, Doe Run Inn offers peace and quiet in an "away from the city" atmosphere. Guests come from around the world to enjoy the Doe Run Inn||s hospitality and its naturally beautiful environment. The property has been in the same family for 5 generations and they eagerly wait to welcome you

Jailerâ€(tm)s Inn is a place of wonderful, thought provoking contrasts. Each of our six guest rooms are beautifully decorated with antiques and heirlooms, all located in the renovated front jail. The back jail, built in 1874, is basically unchanged; you get a chilling and sobering look at what conditions were like in the old Nelson County jail that was in full operation as recently as 1987.
