GENERAL INFORMATION
Climate: Puerto Rico is a tropical destination blessed with lots of sun and enough rain to keep the waterfalls flowing and the flowers growing. The climate is as close to perfect as it can get, averaging 83°F (22.7°C) in the winter and 85°F (29.4°C) in the summer. In other words, it’s always summer! The trade winds cool the coastal towns and the temperature decreases as you go up into the higher mountains.
Peak Season: December 15 through April 15.
Language: Spanish & English are the official languages. Although Spanish is the norm, English is widely spoken in all major tourist areas throughout the island.
Currency: U.S. Dollars - USD. Major credit cards accepted in most establishments.
Standard Time Zone: GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) – 4 hours.
Entry Requirements: Passports are not required for US citizens, as Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States.
Customs Regulations: There are no customs duties on articles bought in Puerto Rico and taken to the US mainland. The US Department of Agriculture inspects bags for fruits and plants forbidden entry to the United States. For more information, contact the US Department of Agriculture at 787-253-4505.
Safety: Puerto Rico’s many attractions and resort areas are very secure, thanks to the concentrated efforts of local and state police to ensure traveler safety. In San Juan, travelers should take the same precautions as in any other major city in the world.
