    OVERVIEW
A string of pearls scattered over the deep blue Indian Ocean - The first glimpse you get of this fascinating atoll- formation confirms two unique aspects of the Republic of Maldives. Not only does it consist of the most beautiful tropical islands, but 99% of its area is covered by the sea. Of the 1,190 total coral islands, 202 are inhabited and 87 are exclusive resort islands.

Island Resorts …the ultimate concept and a totally unique experience. Imagine having your own little island as your vacation home. A short barefoot walk from your bungalow takes you to every little corner of the island, whether it be the restaurant, bar or the dive school. A single resort occupies the whole island. While the rooms are individual or semi-detached bungalows built around the island facing the beach, or built over water in the shallow lagoon that surround the island, the restaurants and the bars, game rooms, gymnasium, spas and swimming pool may be built in a centralized area or scattered around the island to give each an individual and unique feel. What surprises many is that in all of these resort islands the only inhabitants other than the guests are the resort staff.

Accommodations range from detached individual cottages to over water bungalows. All resorts have deserted white sandy beaches and translucent clear lagoons enclosed by rich house reefs. Every island has its individual charm, character and ambience. The facilities and service offered on the resorts vary widely.
