OVERVIEW
THINGS TO SEE AND DO
Our Cayman Islands offer much more than gentle splendors of sun, sand and sea. Our unique heritage attractions include the Cayman Turtle Farm, the world's only commercial Green Sea Turtle farm and Pedro St. James Historic Site with its restored 19th century plantation great house. Learn Cayman's unique history at our National Museum. Marvel at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park and gardens. Visit the National Trust and learn about historic buildings, bird sanctuaries, wetlands reserves and nature trails on all three islands. And of course, meet our hospitable Caymanian people, who will enrich every experience.
From autocross racing to Little League games and cricket, spectator and competitive sports welcome visitors year round. Compete in a 10k or triathlon - or enjoy bicycling, horseback riding or a game of golf. Shop until you drop in chic shops, duty free emporiums and art galleries or just drop into a hammock and soak up our perpetual Caribbean sun.
After dark, choices include cultural events and comedy clubs; jazz sessions, steel band concerts and local theater. Festivals like Pirates Week and Batabano bring lively street dances to George Town. Sample hundreds of culinary delights at The Taste of Cayman in July.
Cayman has sophistication, surprising variety and a hassle-free atmosphere: here street and beach vendors are forbidden by law. Whatever you choose, you'll find your way to relax - Cayman Islands Style.
Accommodations:
Relaxing here is so easy. You'll feel comfortable in your Cayman vacation home as soon as you arrive. Choose your fantasy lifestyle: from luxury four-star hotels and condos on Seven Mile Beach, comfortable guest houses and casual dive resorts, the islands are sure to meet your vacation needs. Plus, Cayman offers one of the Caribbean's best selections of luxurious beachfront condominiums, apartments and villas. And avid divers can even choose a live-a-board dive boat for a week and visit all three islands. Step out of your splendid condo for an early morning stroll on a silvery beach where an occasional sea bird may be your only companion. Small, friendly beachfront resorts in the Sister Islands are truly special. The saying here is: "There are no tourists, only new friends." You'll feel at home as soon as you arrive. The only thing we don't offer is camping-but our beautifully landscaped resorts will make you feel close to nature no matter where you stay!
Dining:
Come savor Cayman's unexpected flavors! With more than 100 restaurants to suit every palate and pocketbook, sampling Cayman's culinary arts is a popular pastime. Choose from elegant five-star dining and sumptuous Sunday brunches or simple local eateries and fast food favorites. Gastronomic adventurers will find everything from Caribbean classics to innovative New World fusion and authentic Thai.
Seafood plays an important role in our heritage. Cayman's traditional national dish is turtle, served as soup, stew or braised turtle steaks. However, no dish better defines Caymanian cuisine than the versatile conch (pronounced KONK). This sweet-tasting mollusk can be prepared in a variety of ways: cooked with onions and spices in coconut milk (conch stew), made into fritters or ceviche.
You can go "West Indian" and discover the "Scotch bonnet," a ubiquitous local chili that's hotter than a habanero. It's used to season many local dishes, including zesty chowders and beef stew, as well as "jerk" chicken and pork. Jerk defines traditional highly seasoned smoked dishes redolent of Jamaican allspice and fiery peppers. Whatever your tastes, look around and you'll discover a different Epicurean adventure every day.
