Entry Requirements/Customs:
Passports:
Every person entering Barbados should be in possession of a valid passport and a valid return ticket. A visitor who is a citizen of the United States of America or Canada traveling direct from these countries may be admitted without a passport for a period not exceeding three (3) months. However, that person will be required to produce proof of nationality, by means of an original birth certificate or citizenship papers, and photo identification by means of either:
• Valid Driver's license with photograph
• University or School identification with photograph
• Job identification card with photograph
• Senior Citizen Card with photograph.

Visas are required for citizens from:

Applicants for visas must complete form in duplicate. The form is to be accompanied by two (2) passport size photographs. The fee for a single entry visa is BDS$50.00 and for a multiple entry visa is $60.00. Visas may be obtained from any of Barbados' Missions overseas.
Cruise Ship Passengers:
Visas are not required for passengers on cruise ships with the exception of citizens of the C.I.S., Eastern European countries, People's Republic of China, Taiwan, South Africa and Korea.
Duration of Visit to Barbados:
Visitors coming to Barbados should provide proof of adequate means of support for the duration of their stay to the satisfaction of the Immigration officer at the port of entry. They should be in possession of valid return tickets.

General duty free allowances in Barbados
Personal Effects: 1 litre of potable spirits or wine, 200 cigarettes (one carton) or 100 cigars or 50 cigars and cigarettes not exceeding 230 grammes in aggregate.
All articles in excess of this exemption are subject to the relevant duty and tax.
Personal effects are passengers’ baggage containing apparel and articles for personal use which a traveler may reasonably require during his vacation e.g. clothing, cosmetics and accessories.
Restricted or Prohibited Items
The importation of certain articles are restricted or prohibited in order to protect the community, to maintain animal and plant life, among other reasons. Prohibited articles such as illegal drugs and pornography will be seized and persons may face penalties or prosecution.
Restricted items may be released after inspection by the appropriate agency or detained until conditions of the restrictions are met. Receipts are issued for all articles detained by customs. Among the restricted items are:
Fruits and Vegetables. All fruits, vegetables, plants, cuttings, seeds or unprocessed plant products must be declared to customs and presented for inspection by a Plant Quarantine Officer. Fresh fruits from certain countries are prohibited in order to prevent the spreading of pest and plant diseases. Certain plant, seeds or cuttings may require an import permit and a photosanitary certificate. Request for import permits and further information should be addressed to: Plant Quarantine

Currency:
The Barbados Dollar is converted at the rate of $1.98 BDS to $1.00 U.S. The BDS Dollar is fixed to the U.S Dollar and does not fluctuate. Its rate to other currencies fluctuate daily based on their fluctuations relative to the U.S. Dollar.
Most establishments will accept travelers cheques, U.S. and Canadian currency. There are many commercial banks that will change most currencies.
Major credit cards are widely accepted in Barbados.
Time:
Barbados falls in the Atlantic time zone. Barbados is one hour ahead of US Standard Time. Barbados Standard Time is Greenwich Mean Time minus five hours. There is no daylight saving time in Barbados
Language:
English with a broad dialect
Health:
Barbados has a high standard of health care which is easily accessible to all. The main Government has 600 beds and offers specialized care in areas such as pediatrics, obstetrics, plastic surgery, radiology, etc.
There are also 8 government Polyclinics providing free medical treatment for minor ailments, 5 Geriatric hospitals for care of the elderly, and a network of Child Care facilities.
Visitors' prescriptions may be filled at local pharmacies. However visitors should consult with a local physician first. A list of pharmacies and medical practitioners may be found in the Barbados Yellow pages (a copy of which is in most hotel rooms).
Vaccinations & Inoculations
Vaccinations are not required for entry into Barbados.
Exception: Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers over one (1) year of age, coming from infected areas.
Electricity:
Electricity in Barbados is: 110 volts/50 cycles.
Most hotels can provide adapters and transformers for hair dryers and other appliances
Climate:
• It is warm and sunny all year round with an average daytime high of 75 - 85oF. The nights are usually slightly cooler.
• The prevailing northeast tradewinds blow steadily so that although it is bright and sunny, it is not unbearably hot.
• The rain usually comes in quick showers. The dry season lasts from January to June.
We are in the tropics, and believe it or not, some people actually put on a sweater in the cool night winter time breezes. Barbadians complain that the sea is cold when its 78oF !!!
