Often
confused with Snapdragon, Tuberose is a
small, rose-like bud flower which grows atop 3 foot
long stems. This flower has many fragrant florets
which grow and open from the bottom up and look
a bit like stephanotis. The maximum size of each white,
star-shaped flower is 2 1/2 inches when fully opened.
Tuberose
originated in southern Mexico and
is now grown primarily in Israel, Africa and the
south of France. An extremely fragrant flower,
it is frequently used for corsages and small
bouquets. It can also be used to decorate small
cocktail tables at the wedding reception.
In
fact, Tuberose flowers are so fragrant that they
are greatly in demand by the perfume industry in
France. Due to their limited availability and perfume
industry demands, they can be quite expensive. |
