Taking a Beautiful Engagement Photo

Newly engaged couples want to share their good news with the world, and there is no better way to celebrate this moment than a set of engagement photos.

Traditionally, engagement photograph were sent to local newspapers, along with information announcing your engagement to the public. This announcement was usually made by the bride's parents or her immediate family. Mostly small-town papers do this now. The larger city papers have mostly ceased to publish engagement announcements.

The photograph (usually in black and white) was traditionally of the bride alone, but today is usually of the engaged couple. If you are shooting outdoors, as many people will like to, the photographer may scout locations prior to the shoot. He or she will probably ask you to bring several outfits and choose the colors that will be most flattering on film.

The engagement portrait(s) can also be used to create a guestbook full of photos with room for guests to sign or can be framed with a wide mat to sign. Most couples will choose a photographer for the engagement portrait that can also be used on their wedding day; however you do not have to.

Most of all, an engagement shoot should be fun for you and your fiance!
